Terms for Prices, Fees, and Expense Rules

Hyre aims to be a safe and reliable marketplace that offers car sharing at a reasonable cost. The fees and rules for expenses outlined below are intended to maintain a secure and trustworthy platform for renters.

Prices and Hyre’s brokerage fee

Current applicable prices are available in the Hyre apps ("Hyre" for renters). These include the rental period price, price per extra kilometer, and agreed rates for fuel/electricity payments or discounts. The renter is responsible for the vehicle and any expenses resulting from its use during the rental period until return, including parking fines, speeding tickets, parking fees, tolls, and fuel costs. Hyre reserves the right to update and change its prices for both future and ongoing bookings. Hyre must inform customers with ongoing or future bookings of any price changes at least 30 days before the change takes effect. The customer has the right to cancel a booking from the date the price change would have taken effect, even if their standard notice period is longer.

Renters are charged for each commenced hour during their rental period. Hyre charges the combination of price points that results in the lowest total cost for the customer.

The prices listed in the "Hyre" mobile app include Hyre's brokerage fee, insurance, and VAT. The brokerage fee covers costs for the development, operation, and marketing of the platform.

Renters pay no monthly fee to be a user of the platform unless otherwise stated.

Insurance and deductible

All Hyre cars are insured through If Skadeförsäkring and are valid in Sweden and countries connected to the Green Card system.

It is possible to register additional drivers for free under the rental agreement. Additional drivers must be registered Hyre users with verified driving eligibility.

Fuel

Fuel costs are calculated automatically. If you refuel with the vehicle's Circle K card, the actual cost charged to the card is added to your final bill. We check the fuel level at both the start and end of the rental period. If the car is returned with less fuel than when picked up, you will be charged a rate per liter. If returned with more fuel, you’ll receive a credit per liter. You can view the latest fuel prices in the app when booking. If the credit exceeds the total rental cost, you’ll receive a voucher for a future rental.

Additional drivers

Additional drivers must be registered Hyre users with verified driver’s licenses.

Cancellation Fees

We encourage our members to provide timely notice if they need to cancel a rental agreement to minimize disruptions. The following rules and fees apply for cancellations:

Cancellations

After the booking has started

Full charge

If canceled within 1 hour of booking and before the rental period starts

No fee

If canceled more than 1 hour after booking and more than 24 hours before the rental period starts

No fee

If canceled more than 1 hour after booking and within 24 hours before the rental period starts

Half rental price

Hyre is not financially responsible if the other party cancels. However, we always strive to find a fair solution for both parties.

Fees for violations of membership terms

In case of unacceptable behavior that violates the membership terms, the renter will be charged the following fees:

Smoking in the vehicle

Smoking is prohibited in the vehicle. If reported, Hyre will charge the renter a cleaning fee for interior vehicle maintenance.

Late Rental Extension

If a renter returns the car late, they will be charged an hourly fee in addition to the extra rental time.

500 SEK per hour (+ extra rental fee)

Late Return of Vehicle

If a renter returns the car late, they will be charged an hourly fee in addition to the extra rental time.

500 SEK per hour, up to 5,000 SEK (+ extra rental fee)

Improper Return Location

If the renter returns the car somewhere other than the designated parking area, a fee will be charged along with the cost to relocate the car.

750 SEK (+ relocation cost)

Failure to Report Damage

Any vehicle damage must be immediately reported to Hyre. If damage is found after the rental period without prior report, the renter will be charged a fee along with repair costs or deductible.

Failure to Clean the Vehicle

The car must be returned in the same condition as when picked up, free of trash or debris. Hyre reserves the right to charge a cleaning fee for any uncleaned vehicle.

600 SEK (+ additional costs for extensive cleaning)

Failure to Charge Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles must be returned with charging initiated. If charging is inadequate, impacting the next user’s expected mileage, Hyre reserves the right to charge a fee.

Other damages or violations may result in compensation claims, where Hyre has the right to full reimbursement for documented expenses or losses.

Expenses during the rental period

Renters are responsible for the vehicle and all expenses incurred from its use during the rental period, including parking fines, speeding tickets, parking fees, tolls, and fuel.

Hyre automatically calculates toll fees within Sweden and fuel costs according to Hyre’s current rates, which are available in the Hyre apps.

The renter is also responsible for paying ferry costs in Sweden, tolls outside of Sweden, and other expenses related to the vehicle.

Fees for non-payment by renters

Unpaid Parking Fees

If direct payment is missed, some facilities (e.g., Autopay) automatically charge the owner. If unpaid, the renter will be charged for the parking fee and a late payment fee.

100 SEK (+ parking fee)

Unpaid Foreign Ferry and Road Tolls

The renter is responsible for ferry and foreign toll payments. Failure to pay results in an additional handling fee.

200 SEK (+cost of ferry/tool)

Unpaid Fines and Other Fees

Fines and fees must be paid immediately. Failure to do so will result in an additional fee alongside the fine/fee amount. This applies to improper parking when the car is returned.

Security deposit for car rentals

Hyre reserves 2,000 SEK as a deposit for direct bookings and 1,000 SEK for pre-booked trips as security for payment of the rental, extra kilometers, tolls, and fuel. The deposit is refunded after the car is returned. It may take up to 7 business days for the funds to be available again after the return.
